Performance
Presented in the style of a sixteenth century anatomy lesson, Open Core is a performance lecture in which Julien Maire dissects projection equipment and cameras, then uses them to build quirky new projection machines live on stage.
In the center of a complex laboratory, the lecturer is scrutinized from every angle by cameras whose images are projected in real time on the surrounding screens. In a simultaneously metaphorical and empirical explanation of “moving images”, Julien Maire works through a series of premeditated catastrophes that ultimately come together to create hybrid images, a parallel media history, an intellectual journey through the eyes and entrails of machines.
