Light installation
The In the Line of Sight installation by Daniel Sauter and Fabian Winkler is both fascinating and intriguing. It is composed of a hundred flashlights held by microphone stands and individually controlled by computer to recreate video sequences on a wall, which can also be seen on a nearby monitor. The image is inevitably blurry, and it seems unlikely that this blend of light and shadows can create anything that is clearly distinguishable.
And yet this type of low resolution video is often used to identify crime suspects. In the Line of Sight asks important questions on the use of surveillance technology and the elusiveness of visual representation.
