Installation of Projection
The work of Julien Maire seeks to translate the elastic properties of film and video. Deconstructing and reinventing the media that produce moving images, he creates anarchic devices for viewing and deconstructing images in his performances and exhibitions alike.
The Cinéma perpendiculaire installation is a hybrid between media archeology and the creation of a new projection method. The movement perceived in the projected image is the optical movement of reading. A complex mechanical interface made of mirrors intercepts and models legible and unfocused areas of slide projections in a deliberate process of image emergence, construction, and deconstruction.
